Dom and Norene,
Here is a few pics of Kimber and the area I use for training down the road from my house. When I first introduced him to the water he was real apprehensive but he's done a total 180. I can't keep him out of the water now! I threw him a few doubles for the first time that day and he must have swam around for 20 mintues trying to figure out how he could fit both dummies in his mouth. He was bound and determined not to leave without both dummies no matter how many times I attempted to recall him. He was finally able to get one in his mouth and the throw rope from the other. I think I would've had to go out there and get him if he hadn't been able to bring both dummies back. He's got a ton of drive! We obviously need to do some more work on recall.

From Dennis 2/9/09:
Hello
Took Ruby to the Vet on Feb 2nd. She was in excellent health and she had her shots and was dewormed. She weighted just over 20 pounds. Her next Vet appointment is March 2nd. I will do the DM test today and it will be mailed either Tuesday or Wednesday. She is a really smart dog, she sits well and comes. Working on heel and stay. Also enclosed are a couple of current pictures of her.

From Frank January 12,2009:
Dom; I think my wife and daughters have just set a new record for spoiling a puppy. When he is not playing or eating or doing his thing outside he is being cuddled with on a lap with a blanket. It's downright pathetic - but he sure seems to enjoy it. The flight must have been somewhat traumatic because he slept in his kennel in the hallway by our bedroom through the night without a peep - in fact I got up around 6:00 a.m. and checked on him because I thought he may have expired on us. Last night he was missing home - woke up and cried about 3 times - took him out to pee, etc. - each time he only cried for about 10 minutes - not too bad. We are lucky we brought him in on Saturday. We woke up this morning to a blizzard - about 30 yards of visibility - I couldn't get to town to work until 1:00 p.m.. Had to hit a long snow bank on our road in 4 wheel drive at about 40 miles an hour or would not have gotten through. The pup does not like the extreme cold and wind - he will adjust tho - our female chessy thinks it is great outside.
By the way, the pup does have a name. My wife and daughters felt that Rebel gets most of the glory most of the time (and rightly so), however, they think Money did most of the work in this operation - so the pup is named after her - his name is Cash.
Also one final note on the retrieving desire of Cash. We have 3 - 6 month old kittens in the house until spring, and he seemed to just love them to death until we realized he was trying to pick them up and carry them around - he's having some trouble though since they are around his same height and length. They are not as heavy as him tho.
It was funny to watch him with the kittens. They don't have a lot of patience and have gotten real sick of him. We took a few pictures outside yesterday but since our digital camera is a piece of crap they didn't turn out very well (too dark). We will try again maybe this next weekend and send a couple to you. Sorry for the long narrative - just thought I would fill you in on our weekend puppy adventure. Great pup - great disposition. Thanks - Frank.
Dom and Norene,
Attached is one of my favorite pictures of Sage. It is one of my pictures on my computer as a screen saver. Everyone who sees it comments on what a beautiful pup she is. A few of the smart ones even recognize her as a Chesapeake and not a Lab. The ones who call her a Lab are quickly scolded, corrected and escorted out of my office! If they are that uneducated and mainstream they aren't worthy of my time! Seriously though, she is a wonderful dog and we love her to death. And as with my other dog from you her only shortcomings come from my lack of time to work with her and my limited training ability. I am sure her natural ability will make up for a lot of my faults. Hopefully the time issue will change as the new hunting season approaches and we complete our new house. Watch out birds, here we come!
Have a good season,
Kirk and Marti

Dom and Norene,
Had to drop you a note to tell you a story about the new pup. Sage is proving to be a great representative of the breed and of your breeding program. We had her home about a week when my son and I took her, our older chessy and our shorthair back to our duck pond for a little afternoon walk. Our pond is not enormous, it may have a total area equal to one of your pond sections. During the walk back to the pond she made a couple of retrieves of the puppy bumper in our field and carried the bumper around as happy and as proud as could be. Once we reached the pond the older dogs continued searching for birds around the ditchline and the sheet water in the field. Sage saw the decoys I had set in the pond and became very interested. She ran right up to the waters edge and stepped in about chest deep. Now, because of the weather we have been having, this was her first introduction to water with any depth to it. There was about an 1/8 of an inch of ice on the pond. A far cry from the 3 inches of ice we had just a couple of weeks earlier, but still quite chilly for a pup. She backed herself out of the water and decided to investigate the reed grass around the pond for a bit. It didn't take her long to make her way to the opposite side of the water from me. As she snooped through the grass she slipped down the bank and into the pond again. This time she struggled to get up the bank for a moment with no luck. I called her name to get her attention. She turned her head and saw me across the pond. I could tell by the expression on her face just what she was thinking. She gave me a look that said "Well, I can't get up the bank, I guess I'll just swim!" She then began to break ice and swim towards me, about 20 feet across the water. SHE'S 9 WEEKS OLD AND BREAKING ICE TO SWIM IN THE POND! Granted it wasn't very thick ice or a long swim but still impressive none the less. She has also proven herself to be completely insane about birds. We were fortunate enough to have some birds left from hunting excursions to tempt her with. I CAN'T KEEP HER AWAY FROM FEATHERS! No matter where I have birds, in the truck or ATV or in the garage to clean, she finds them and does everything in her power to get them. Needless to say I think we have another great chessy at our house
Thanks Again, Kirk, Marti, Hannah and Gunner
